Update 28 February PDF Print E-mail

On 8 February a House of Commons Committee published a report on the Post Office Closure Programme.  The report clearly endorses all of the points we made - lack of clarity, lack of information on why we were chosen, lack of information on what the outreach service would be, etc., etc.

Here is the report and here is the summary.

Unfortunately this has not helped us [it may help the future PO closures].

The times of the new mobile van service are here.  We tried to get the Post Office to give us a Saturday service and to have the same hours each day. They completely ignored us again.

Please use the Mobile Van - it is not John McNichol's fault that the government have insisted on the closure of 2,500 post offie branches, nor that Post Office Ltd have made such a mess of the closure programme.

WE'VE LOST

Today I received the Area Plan Decision Booklet for our area.  Here's what they said about Thornhill:

"Post Office® Thornhill branch

Respondents commented that a high number of elderly customers and those with disabilities would be disadvantaged. Some pointed out the distance to the Stirling branch and said public transport was not a viable option to alternative branches.

Concern was also expressed about the impact on local businesses who use the branch, the affect on the community generally and that the closure of the branch would lead to the demise of the village’s only shop.

A full review of the proposal has been conducted with specific consideration to the demographics, proximity to alternative branches and public transport. Due consideration was given to the impact on the local shop and businesses and a number of different types of outreach service explored.

Having regard to these and all other relevant factors, Post Office Ltd considers the community will be best served by a mobile post office, which is fully DDA compliant providing access to a wide range of our services – including cash - 5 days a week for a total of 10 hours.

The final decision therefore has been made to proceed with the closure of this branch and provide mobile outreach services for 10 hours over 5 days a week. Post Office Ltd is still keen to hear views from local people on the days and timings that the mobile post office should visit."

Update 22 December PDF Print E-mail

I've received a reply from the government department that deals with the Post Office.

I expect we'll hear the result of the consultation soon.  The area consultation that ended 2 weeks before us heard over a week ago.  I guess they're waiting till after Christmas.
