In 2002 as part of the Community Futures programme, a profile of our Community Council area was drawn up. We hope to update this as we can.

Introduction

Thornhill and Blairdrummond community council covers an area of rich farmland to the west of Stirling. The boundary from Drip Bridge goes south and west along the River Forth and north and west along the River Teith. The community council area stretches westwards to Flanders Moss.

The farm land is mostly the carse, land previously covered in peat but cleared with a mixture of hard work and ingenuity in the 18th Century. The land to the west of Thornhill was never cleared and is now the protected area of Flanders Moss.

The planned village of Thornhill is the largest settlement. Blairdrummond is a dispersed community; there are many farms and other properties occupying rural locations across the area.

Road links to Stirling and the motorway network are good along the A84 trunk road. The A873 leaves the trunk road at Blairdrummond and heads west through Thornhill and towards Aberfoyle linking with the A81 to Glasgow.
