Ordinary lives PDF Print E-mail

In about 1993 Willie Dawson and Susan Duke had a tea party for the three oldest residents of Thornhill – Mrs Craig, Mrs Jessie MacFarlane and Mrs Annie Ashton, and with their permission we taped their conversation about the life they had led as children in Thornhill. These three ladies had been born in 1905 and went to the village school. Later I went and visited Mr. William Ritchie who had come to the village in about 1906 as a small baby and also grew up here. The result is this small paper which aims to give a taste of life in Thornhill in the early years of the twentieth century.  Willie Dawson died in December 2009.
